This picture is based on the bad storm we had on the North Wales coast winter of 2013/2014, it’s a bit of a change from my animal portraits. I used a bit of artistic license for the waves; I used some reference photos I had taken in Anglesey of the waves crashing over the rocks and just added them to the lighthouse.
Since painting this I have read a report that the owners are now renovating the lighthouse. Apparently the storm did send a big wave crashing over the lighthouse which caused damage to the roof, this allowed water to get inside the brickwork which then caused serious damage to the structure, since then a lot of the outside cladding has deteriorated. I am looking forward to seeing the lighthouse when the renovations are complete, perhaps I will do another painting.
I have a limited number of prints of this picture for sale. Prints are on canvas, mounted and wrapped in cellophane. They will fit a 16″x 12″ standard frame. Price is £18 free postage and packing UK only.
